I’m Not a Star Trek Fan: Alec Peters & Bullying in Fandom, Part 1

I feel the need to preface this with the fact that I am not a Star Trek fan.

I don’t DISLIKE Star Trek – in fact, I have watched many episodes of TNG, loved The Wrath of Khan, truly enjoyed Strange New Worlds, and also enjoyed the first (and ONLY the first) new Star Trek movie in 2009 (yeah, I know, how dare I, and all that).

The thing is, I was never a part of Star Trek fandom, and honestly at this point I can’t help but think “thank the gods”.

To begin, I have to begin in the present – the situation that prompted me to actually write this story in its entirety.

Last week, I got wind that Alec Peters [of still-not-released Axanar fan film fame] was advertising a Facebook group called “Trekkers Against Bullying” (@TABnation2022 on Twitter). Having had personal experience being stalked and bullied (including an attempted doxxing) by Alec, his girlfriend, and their flunkeys, I immediately went on red alert.

But listen, I get it. At first glance, the guy who “produced” the admittedly high-quality fan film Prelude to Axanar and raised over a million dollars (via Kickstarter & IndieGoGo) to create a feature-length fan film based on that standard seems like a good person with whom to link hands in solidarity…despite him being sued by CBS for copyright infringement.

The problem is, Alec Peters himself is an absolute bully, harasser, and stalker, as is his girlfriend and many of his flunkeys. This is something I know from personal experience, and while I have previously done my best to stay vague or not go public with this honestly very traumatizing experience, what I have heard about the recent webcast interview between Alec and the leaders of “Trekkers Against Bullying” is so problematic that I feel as if I can no longer remain, if not silent, then at least not quiet, about my experiences any longer.

First, while I do not have the bandwidth to clip the entire conversation from the aforementioned webcast, one of the things the “Trekkers Against Bullying” was really pushing was their desire to be a mediator between people or groups who are having arguments with each other/between the bully and the bullied. They ADMIT that they are not professionals and have NO training or education to do such a thing – as a friend said, even IF they had degrees in conflict resolution (which they don’t), they do not have the right to intervene. “It’s one thing to be a bystander telling a bully to knock it off and protect the victim. But that’s not what they’re doing and it’s not their stated mission. They are treating the bully’s side as just as valid as the victim’s, which is bullshit. That enables bullies and re-victimizes the targets.”

So I ask you this: Why should a victim feel like they have to enter into some so-called “mediation” with someone who is bullying/harassing/stalking them at all, let alone with a bunch of untrained, uneducated people?

The answer is: Of course they shouldn’t!

All that said, the part of that webcast that really angered me is the fact that they admitted that their involvement with Alec Peters – which has earned them kickback from Star Trek fans and others who have been personally bullied/harassed/stalked by him – gives them credibility.

So yes, this development is upsetting, but also threatens the very essence of any anti-bullying movement.

And because of this, I feel the need to go back to the very beginning of my involvement in the so-called “Axanar haters” contingent – which is, to be quite honest, a hilariously incorrect name, because in my experience getting to know the people who are deemed “haters” by Alec Peters and his flunkeys, they don’t actually “hate” Axanar – or rather, the actual fan films/scenes that are encompassed within the Axanar “universe” that *have actually been produced* – what they have a problem with is Alec Peters and his apparent inability to produce the two 15-minute episodes allowed by the CBS lawsuits; his possible probable misuse of donor funds; his constant fundraising despite the money that he earns from sales of items that belong to the CBS IP; his “Ares Studios” Patreon, his superchats in his numerous webcasts, etc. etc.; and MOST OF ALL – his bullying of literally ANYONE who EVER says ANYTHING that HE perceives MIGHT be AGAINST him.

(And yes, I highlighted those specific words on purpose.)

Now, I began this diatribe by admitting that I’m not actually a “Star Trek fan”…so how did I personally end up entrenched in this bullshit? How did I personally end up as someone who has been bullied, harassed, stalked, and even been the victim of an attempted doxxing by Alec Peters, his girlfriend, and their flunkeys?

Well, the tl;dr is that I ended up in a relationship with one of their so-called “haters”. And because of that, let me repeat: I have been bullied, harrassed, and stalked online – and also the victim of an attempted doxxing.

And I think I’ll end Part 1 on that note, because the rest of what I have to say involves a lot of details that will take many thousands of words and too many screenshots to count. So in expectance of Part 2, I will leave you with this recent tweet – because again, MY part of this story is so long and involved that I can’t even begin with a screenshot from my own files (which number in the hundreds and go back to 2019)…

  1. I’m sorry Tara, seeing this again breaks my heart for you. You are right, the reason any of us haters exist is to try and save anyone and everyone we can from supporting this absolutely horrible human being… That text says it all. 1) Hes not and never was a practicing attorney 2) He uses the law to bully and punish those who are not in line with his desires or opinions, by definition, a bully.

  2. And yet you are married to a person who has said that a Facebook groups sole purpose “is to goad Alec Peters (yep I have the screenshots), and who also flew across the country to film another friend harass and stalk Alec Peters at a convention (found guilty of stalking and harassment by a GA court).

Also…”You, your husband, Justin Burton and John Hudgens conspired to have Alec Peters and Crysstal thrown out of DragonCon, lying about them having fake badges. When security didn’t fall for it, you all covered it up, not one of you admitted it was a lie. You told people in person and Dean(DN) sent out text messages from home. Shameful such behavior from a person who was a guest panelist and runs their own convention.”

So don’t throw the term bully around without first cleaning up your own messes at home.

    • Thank you for proving my point about stalking, harrassing, and lying about me, Jon.

I don’t care what Dean said about Axamonitor’s purpose. And as for him flying across the country to film the stupid happy birthday incident (which I personally have said was over the top)…he has been to Dragon Con almost every year for well over a decade. Did he happen to be present & filming when it happened? Yes. But not even he knew what Shawn was planning to do. In fact he didn’t even know until that morning/afternoon that he was going to go hang out with Shawn.

I don’t even need to address that second paragraph other than to say I never talked to anyone with Dragon Con – security or otherwise – about them being there last year. Nor did Dean. Y’all are so delusional I can’t even comprehend.

      • Delusional unfortunately somes up Alecs continued faithful supporters. Good people but somehow 1+1 is not 2. Thats on them and I wish them well. The fact they had to come here to continue bullying you just goes to prove your point. There is countless episodes, blogs, emails and god knows what else that showcases Alec is a profound bully regardless of what his faithful flock want to believe. And you were right to call out his self promotion of said group for the sole purpose of finding a new mechanism to raise funds for his continued Axascheme. And Mr. T before you go down the rabbit hole just leave it. We will never ever see eye to eye. Have fun throwing your money in the trash, its your prerogative. I only care about helping folks that are unaware of the facts.

    • Hi there Jon wow talk about being a bully I am sure the good people at TAB will want to have a word with you about this latest attack against Tara and Dean with out right lies. You do understand unlike you and Alec who claims he has charges for stalking when 1 a restraining order is not a stalking charge. 2 Alec was the one charged. But as always you lot do revisionist history to support Alec It has really gotten beyond pathetic at this point and I hope you all can move on from Axanar and be better people.

    • And yet it is okay to file a frivolous lawsuit against him, all cause he was requested to do a disposition.

And yet it is okay to threaten his children.

And yet it is okay to run away and get a protection order, when he got given an opportunity to go a couple of rounds with a hater. Or was he lying when he posted about going a couple of rounds in the ring?

Don’t forget who is stupid enough to defy a ban from entering DragonCon, 2 years in a row.

    • If you check the box that lets you know about new comments, you should be able to reply. I see the reply feature when I look at comments.

  3. Did I say “you talked to anyone at dragoncon”. Nope I didn’t. As for the rest, your husband’s words are the act of a bully. I’m sorry you can’t see that.

    • Hm. I suppose you’re right, you didn’t say “those exact words”! In that case, PLEASE enlighten me, in your OWN words, as to how I was part of some so-called “conspiracy” regarding their Dragon Con attendance*…and I’d especially like to know how I was part of it with someone whom I do not know in the slightest and didn’t even know was AT Dragon Con (John), and another person who was NOT at Dragon Con and with whom I had zero one-on-one communications with during Dragon Con (Justin).

*Let me be clear that no conspiracy existed and I had absolutely nothing to do with whatever happened with Alec and Crysstal at Dragon Con. I’m just interested in hearing what YOUR version of the story is (or rather, more likely, Alec and/or Crysstal’s version as parroted by you) – ya know, for posterity’s sake and all.

    • HI Jon you seem to think there was some big team up to get Alec kicked from dragon con that everyone was working together to achieve this. What you fail to understand is we are not Troll Hunters we do not sit in a group chat and make grand plans to take you all down.. You all provide the sources on your own we just use the screen shots of your all’s actions. And it was with those of Alec that was sent off to Dragon con those retaining to me and his threats to my self and others. All which I publically posted about on Axamonitor so I have no idea where you get in this in your or Alecs head that there is some massive team up against him. No one else was working together in fact no one knew of Johns involvement until someone posted about it on Axamonitor . So please make sure you get your revisionist history correct as everything is public and on Axamonitor.

    • Wait. Wait. You cannot discount the *fact* that Tara was bullied by Alec by saying their husband said bad things.

Is Alec giving you a cut of his fundraisers to shill for him?
